Ableton Live is a DAW that is well known in the world of electronic music but not generally thought of as a film scoring program. In this seminar, Sebastian Arocha demonstrates the unique capabilities that Ableton Live has for creating unusual sonic textures and manipulating prerecorded material, while running in sync with sessions from DAWs such as Pro Tools, Logic Pro, Cubase and Digital Performer. Ableton Live is presented as a powerful program for sonic manipulation to enhance, rather than replace, the screen composer’s primary DAW.

The Society of Composers and Lyricists Seminar: Ableton Live for Screen Composers - Sebastian Arocha Grammy Nominated composer, producer and remixer Sebastian Arocha is one of today’s most cutting edge and innovative musicians on the LA scene. Raised between his native Mexico City and Europe, he has developed a unique sound by fusing Latin, Electronic and Orchestral music in very effective ways. His signature touch has led to collaborations with Sting, on the track “Never Coming Home” for the Billboard #1 charting soundtrack to “Queer Eye for the Straight Guy”, Sting and Mary J.Blige’s Grammy nominated single “Whenever I Say Your Name”, Enrique Iglesias #1 single “Not in Love (feat. Floetry)", Santana’s “One of These Days (feat. Ozomatli)", and eclectic drum programming and production sessions with the London Symphony for David Sylvian and Ryuichi Sakamoto’s iconic “Scent of Magnolia”. His electronic work under the moniker ROCAsound has led to many Billboard #1 dance singles with artists like Donna Summer, Seal, Ricky Martin, Amerie, Counting Crows, Fila Brazilia, Fischerspooner, Rick James, Jody Watley, and Kaskade.

A graduate of the prestigious Berklee College of Music with a degree in Film Scoring and Composition, Sebastian is also engaged in composing and producing for award winning films and TV shows. Some of his recent work includes: NBC’s "Game of Silence” and “American Odyssey”, USA’s “Mr. Robot", MGM’s remake of "Robocop”, Ivan Reitman’s "Draft Day", History Channel's “Houdini”, James Patterson’s “Alex Cross” and three #1 Box Office hits “Iron Man 2”, “The Sponge Bob Movie: Sponge out of Water” and Jet Li’s “League of Gods”. Collaborating alongside Oscar nominated composer John Debney, Sebastian provided the electronic music production for Disneyland’s epic remake of “World of Color” and Disneyland Hong Kong’s “Iron Man Experience”. Both shows were a massive undertaking of full orchestra recorded at Abbey Road, remixed and enhanced with analog and modern textures to fit a new interactive 3D holographic environment.
