Mark Smythe


Mark is a New Zealand-born, Los Angeles-based composer known for his film scores and choral/classical works. He most recently scored Chris Sun's creature feature BOAR, which is currently trending on AMC's Shudder streaming platform.

Mark has three Hollywood Music in Media Award Nominations (2017, 2015, 2013) and two Australian Screen Industry Network Awards for Best Score: CHARLIE'S FARM (2015) and DADDY'S LITTLE GIRL (2012).

In 2017, he studied with Conrad Pope and Angel Velez for his concert conducting debut with the Rousse Philharmonic, Bulgaria, performing his Fiordland cue from FLYING SOUTH. Earlier that year, the full score was performed live to picture by the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra, who played on the original recording.

Mark taught film music for three semesters at UCLA Extension from 2017-2018, and since June 2018 has held a part-time role as COO of the Society of Composers & Lyricists.
