This seminar will cover basic conducting skills and serve as a composer’s boot camp for conducting one’s own music both in the studio and on stage. Eimear will also tackle the challenges composers encounter when adapting their scores from the studio to the concert hall, as well as strategies to avoid common mistakes that can unnecessarily complicate performance.

Eimear notes, “Sometimes, when conducting orchestras we only have a single three-hour rehearsal to prepare for a 90-minute show. Therefore, if a score doesn’t lend itself to being played through smoothly in one read, it can’t be programmed.” She emphasizes that it’s often not the complexity of the music itself, but rather how the score is laid out, how tempo changes are handled, and the clarity of articulations and dynamics that determine its playability. These aspects will be thoroughly discussed during this seminar.

Eímear Noone is a Los Angeles/Galway-based conductor and award-winning Irish composer, composing extensively for film, television, and video games.

Recently, Eímear composed the score for the channel 5 drama series Maxine, the animated feature The Canterville Ghost (starring Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie), and the score for the animated feature film Two by Two: Overboard, which topped the UK Box Office in October 2020 and earned her and husband Craig Stuart Garfinkle an Ivor Novello nomination for Best Original Film Score. She also worked on the new release Chantal in Fairyland (Chantal im Märchenland) which is currently topping the German box office. Her score for World of War Craft: Warlords of Draenor earned her a Hollywood Music in Media Award for Video Game Score.

Alongside composing, Eímear is constantly in demand as a conductor, conducting 40+ concerts a year. Recent concerts include sold-out shows with The Royal Philharmonic at The Royal Albert Hall, The BBC Symphony Orchestra, The Philadelphia Orchestra, The Vancouver Symphony, The Lyric Opera of Chicago, and many more. Most notably in 2020, Eímear made history by becoming the first woman ever to lead the orchestra at the Academy Awards.
