Join us with Netflix Music Executives for an evening celebrating the community of composers, songwriters, and music supervisors of the Netflix shows Bodyguard, House of Cards, When They See Us, The Umbrella Academy, Russian Doll, and Narcos: Mexico. Reception to follow panel conversation, hosted by Netflix Music.
Emmy®-nominee Ruth Barrett has quickly become one of the most sought-after film and television composers in the UK. Her music is unmistakably original and eclectic, spanning feature films and high-end TV drama. Ruth’s film credits include City of Tiny Lights, Legacy, Harry Brown, Toast, and Twenty8k.In television, Ruth has amassed over thirty scores in her twelve years of composing. She recently scored Bodyguard, Jed Mercurio’s hit series for BBC, Victoria series 3, and The Durrells series 4. She is currently working on Sanditon, an 8-part series based on Jane Austen’s unfinished novel. Other TV projects include David Hare’s Collateral, Critical, Love Nina, Wuthering Heights, Wallander, and Whitechapel.
Jeff Beal’s enormous contributions to prestige television, cherished comedy series, and award-winning documentary films have earned him 18 Emmy® nominations, five statuettes, and the loyalty of top filmmakers for both the big and small screen. His dark, operatic, and richly orchestrated score for House of Cards has earned him six Emmy® nominations, and the Best TV Composer of the Year Award at the 2016 World Soundtrack Awards. Beal’s diverse voice – informed by his conservatory training and jazz background – has augmented the comedy on Monk, and Ugly Betty.His work has graced series and films like Carnivàle, Rome, The Newsroom, Blackfish, Spirit of the Marathon, and The Queen of Versailles.
Beal’s other work includes Al Gore’s An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power which premiered at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival, Jon Dunham’s documentary feature Boston about the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing, The Putin Interviews documentary directed by Oliver Stone, The Sweet Life directed by Rob Spera, and Shock and Awe directed by Rob Reiner.
His recent work is comprised of The Price of Everything, he Bleeding Edge, Bigger, and Generation Wealth. Jeff’s upcoming work includes Sebring, directed by Anthony DiMaria, The Grand Hotel, directed by Ken Olin, and the feature drama Inside Game, directed by Randall Batinkoff.
Emmy Award-winning composer and pianist Kris Bowers creates genre-defying music that pays homage to his jazz roots with alternative and R&B influences. From scoring documentaries like Muse, and Norman Lear: Just Another Version of You, to scripted series including For The People, Dear White People, and Black Monday, his work is a testament to his versatility as an artist.In 2018, Bowers collaborated with director Peter Farrelly and actor Mahershala Ali on their critically acclaimed film Green Book. In addition to scoring the film, Bowers served as Ali’s on-screen hand-double, providing the fingering for close up piano shots, as well as spending months working with Ali as his piano instructor. Bowers’ work on Green Book landed him a nomination for Best Score at the 2019 Critic’s Choice Awards.Bowers’ scoring work can be heard across a wide range of film and television, from The Snowy Day (for which he won a Daytime Emmy®) to Elaine Stritch: Shoot Me, Seeds of Time, Play it Forward, I Am Giant: Victor Cruz, and Little Boxes. In early 2018, Bowers scored the drama Monsters and Men, his work also appears in Ava DuVernay’s miniseries, When They See Us. Additionally, his original music and lyrics are featured as the main theme and end credits for Madden NFL 19: Longshot, as well as the forthcoming Madden 2020.

Jeff Russo is an Emmy®-winning and Grammy®-nominated composer, who is creating some of the most memorable music on screen. He recently scored The Umbrella Academy, and The Act. Jeff won an Emmy® and has two additional nominations for his score for Fargo. His music plays a major role on fan-favorite shows such as Legion, which is about to return for it’s fourth season, and Star Trek: Discovery.  He also composed the score for Noah Hawley’s upcoming film Lucy in the Sky, starring Natalie Portman and Jon Hamm.

Other credits include Mark Wahlberg’s action-thriller film, Mile 22, Craig Macneill’s Lizzie, Jon Avnet’s Three Christs, Counterpart, Power, and The Night Of. Russo received a BAFTA nomination for Best Music for Annapurna Interactive’s video game What Remains of Edith Finch.
In 2007, Gustavo Santaolalla became only the third composer in history to be honored with two consecutive Academy Awards® for Best Original Score. He also received consecutive Golden Globe® nominations for Babel, and Brokeback Mountain, and a remarkable third consecutive BAFTA nomination, winning two of the three years for Babel, and The Motorcycle Diaries. In addition to the Oscars®, Golden Globes® and BAFTA’s, Santaolalla has also been honored with 2 Grammy’s®, 15 Latin Grammy’s®, a World Soundtrack Award, and a Platino award.
His breakthrough as a solo artist came with the 1996 album release Ronroco, which earned rave reviews and put Santaolalla at the forefront of the Latin music world. As a producer, he has also worked with such artists as Café Tacuba, Juanes, Julieta Venegas, Molotov, Nelly Furtado, Elvis Costello, The Gypsy Kings, Maldita Vecindad and Kronos Quartet.
Santaolalla’s film credits include the Oscar®-nominated August, Osage County, 21 Grams, Amores Perros, Biutiful, and North Country. Currently Santaolalla is working on his band Bajofondo’s fourth studio album Aura, Naughty Dog’s video game The Last of Us II,  a TV special of Los Tigres del Norte at Folsom Prison, Café Tacuba’s second MTV Unplugged, Narcos: Mexico, and the fifth season of Jane The Virgin.
Aaron Byrd has always had a desire and curiosity to seek out new experiences, people, places and, most of all, music. Having visited 32 countries (so far) and spending at least three hours a day listening to new music, his attraction to the unknown and thirst for discovery has fueled an eclectic and expansive taste in music, and this is reflected in Byrd’s weekly radio show on LA’s KCRW.
In addition to being on air, he also curates a wide range of events, from the Byrd Series, a weekly live series at a boutique hotel in West Hollywood, to post-performance events at the LA Opera. Byrd has consulted for companies like Apple, Google, Mars, Wrigly Company, and more. As a DJ, he has shared the stage with A Tribe Called Quest, Gary Clark Jr., James Blake, Anderson .Paak, Moses Sumney, Gregory Porter, Little Dragon, and many others. He is also regularly featured at venues around Los Angeles.
Music supervisor Maggie Phillips has lent her expertise to create the unique sounds of numerous TV shows and films. Most recently, she was the music supervisor for The Umbrella Academy, Homecoming, Shrill, The Handmaid’s Tale, The Act, Legion,and Counterpart.

Phillips has also worked on more than 30 films, ranging from Barry Jenkin’s Academy Award®-winning film, Moonlight, to Warner Bros. recent comedy Isn’t It Romantic, starring Rebel Wilson and Liam Hemsworth.
Anchoring Saturday nights, Liza Richardson has hosted and produced a radio show on KCRW since 1991. She has music supervised small screen classics like Friday Night Lights, Parenthood, and The Leftovers. Currently she helms Narcos: Mexico, Hawaii Five-O, Queen Sugar, and Barry. She was recognized by her peers, The Guild of Music Supervisors, as 2012’s TV Music Supervisor of The Year, and in 2016 for Best Music Supervision for TV Drama for her work on the Netflix staple Narcos.
Brienne Rose is a Los Angeles based music supervisor, whose undeniable passion for music and its power to transform picture, drive her ability to craft uniquely curated soundtracks for every project. She launched her company, Noise/Racket in 2009 and has since collaborated on a diverse list of acclaimed projects.At present, Brienne is the supervisor on critically acclaimed TV shows Russian Doll, Search Party, Vida, and The Other Two.
She has supervised over 25 films, including 2019 Sundance select Paddleton, indie classics Dreamland, and Before I Disappear, the award-winning documentary Twinsters, and the Academy Award®-winning short film, Curfew. She has also worked on various national commercial campaigns, selecting, licensing and producing music for brands such as Spotify, Squarespace, Ferragamo, Jimmy Choo, and Google.
