The remarks below are from the introduction by SCL President Ashley Irwin at the 2013 SCL Holiday Dinner:

It’s hard to think of someone who has a broader musical range than Alan. With over 70 feature films and hundreds of hours of TV behind him he has given us some truly memorable musical moments. Consider the versatility encompassed by this list of titles: The Clan of the Cave Bear, Outrageous Fortune, Predator, The Abyss, Father of the Bride, Grumpy Old Men, The Bodyguard, Stuart Little, What Lies Beneath, What Women Want, Van Helsing …. to name just a few. But it’s Alan’s collaborations with Robert Zemeckis over the years that have yielded some of cinema’s all-­time classics. They first worked together in 1984 on “Romancing the Stone” and since then, Alan has composed the music for all of Zemeckis’s movies, including the “Back to the Future” trilogy (1985, 1989, 1990), “Who Framed Roger Rabbit” (1988), “Death Becomes Her” (1992), “Forrest Gump” (1994), “Contact” (1997), “Cast Away” (2000), “The Polar Express” (2004), “Beowulf” (2007), “A Christmas Carol” (2009), and “Flight” (2012). Alan’s also enjoyed a successful songwriting partnership with Glen Ballard who is with us tonight. I had the pleasure of working with them on the Academy Awards when they received a Best Original Song nomination for “BELIEVE” from “The Polar Express”. He’s a 3-­?time Grammy winner and 8-­?time nominee and a 2-­?time Oscar and Golden Globe nominee. He’s won 3 Saturn Awards, 12 BMI Awards and in 2011 was presented with the Max Steiner Film Music Achievement Award by the City of Vienna. He’s also an accomplished pilot and somehow in his spare time manages to run his own winery.  Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome, Alan Silvestri.
