The SCL Announces New COO

The Society of Composers and Lyricists proudly welcomes Laura Jackman as its new Chief Operating Officer.

Laura comes to the SCL from previous experience with organizations including The Hollywood Bowl, TAXI A&R, SAG-AFTRA, The Kodály Association of Southern California (KASC), and LA Youth Studio. Laura has also been immersed in the score and songwriting world since childhood as a SAG-AFTRA session singer and continues to lend her voice to many major film, television, and album projects. As a vocalist, she has had the immense pleasure of contributing her voice to the music of Hans Zimmer, Danny Elfman, John Williams, Paul McCartney, Michael Giacchino, Ramin Djawadi, Richard Carpenter, and more.

Jackman takes over the post of COO from Mark Smythe, who is leaving to focus exclusively on his career as a composer. Mark had served in the position since June of 2018 and was integral in implementing many of the ways in which the SCL and its members function together, including much of the logistics behind the first two SCL Awards ceremonies, leading the planning of Q&As and advertising with major industry partners, and seamlessly migrating screening interviews and seminars online during the COVID-19 pandemic.
