Two women coincide in a hospital room where they are going to give birth. Both are single and became pregnant by accident. Janis, middle-aged, doesn’t regret it and she is exultant. The other, Ana, an adolescent, is scared, repentant, and traumatized. Janis tries to encourage her while they move like sleepwalkers along the hospital corridors. The few words they exchange in those hours will create a very close link between the two, which by chance develops and becomes complicated, changing their lives in a decisive way. R | 123mins
Alberto Iglesias is Spain’s most acclaimed composer with three Oscar nominations and considerable experience in film composition. His eclectic classical training includes piano, guitar, composition, and counterpoint as well as electronic music. 2021’s Parallel Mothers marks Iglesias’ 13th film with director Pedro Almodóvar, a partnership spanning more than 25 years. His score has received a Golden Globe nomination, an SCL Awards nomination, and is shortlisted for the forthcoming Oscars. Their other collaborations include The Flower Of My Secret, Live Flesh, All About My Mother, Talk To Her, Bad Education, Volver, Broken Embraces, The Skin I Live In, Julieta, Pain And Glory, and The Human Voice. Iglesias’ three Oscar nominations include The Kite Runner, The Constant Gardener, and Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy for which he also received a BAFTA nomination. Iglesias has also composed the scores for Comandante, The Dancer Upstairs, Che, Two Faces Of January, and Exodus: Gods & Kings.
Iglesias has been awarded 11 Goyas and numerous European accolades. He won the Satellite Award for Best Original Soundtrack for The Kite Runner and was awarded the Platinum Prize for Ibero- American Cinema in three consecutive editions for his work in Juileta (2017), La Cordillera (2018), and Yuli (2019). In 2019 he received the Gold Medal of the Fine Arts of the Culture Ministry.
