Brainwashed: Sex-Camera-Power investigates the politics of cinematic shot design and how this meta-level of filmmaking intersects with the twin epidemics of sexual abuse/assault and employment discrimination against women, with over 175 movie clips from 1896 – 2020.

Sharon Farber, a celebrated Film, TV, and concert music composer, is a Grammy winner, a member of the Executive Committees of both the Motion Pictures and TV Academies, a Four-time Emmy Award Nominee, an ASCAP Board member, VP of the Alliance for Women Film Composers, winner of the Society of Composers and Lyricists Award for “Outstanding Work in the Art of Film Music”, winner of the Visionary Award In Music by The Women’s International Film & Television Showcase, winner of the Telly Award, and an ASCAP Composer Choice Award nominee.

Sharon has worked with networks such as NBC, CBS, Showtime, Lifetime, and WB as well as writing music for feature films. Her film music has been released commercially and performed in concerts. Brainwashed: Sex-Camera-Power, Sharon’s latest film, premiered at Sundance and Berlin and was released theatrically on Oct 21st, 2022 in conjunction with its commercial soundtrack release.

In the concert music world, Sharon has many national and international credits to her name, including The Los Angeles Master Chorale, The Juilliard School of Music, and many more.

Nina Menkes is considered a cinematic feminist pioneer and one of America’s foremost independent filmmakers and has shown widely in major international film venues including Sundance, the Berlinale, Cannes, The New York Film Festival, Locarno, AFI, BFI-London, La Cinematheque Francaise and the Whitney Museum of American Art. Her honors include a Los Angeles Film Critics Association Award, a Guggenheim Fellowship, a Creative Capital Award, and a Berlinale FIPRESCI Prize for the feature documentary MASSAKER (2005). BRAINWASHED is her second documentary and fourth feature to premiere at Sundance. It has screened widely at A-list festivals and was awarded the 2022 Female Empowerment Seal by the Critics Choice Association.
