Catherine Joy Wins David Raksin Award for Emerging Talent At 5th SCL Awards

Composer Catherine Joy’s score for Home Is A Hotel won the 2024 David Raksin Award for Emerging Talent at the 5th SCL Awards on Tuesday, February 13, 2024 in Los Angeles. The award, voted on by members of the Society of Composers & Lyricists, is in its third year of existence. The trophy was presented by Nami Melumad, who won the award last year.

During the acceptance speech, Joy thanked all of those who have advocated for her throughout her career. The composer, advocate, and educator also gave thanks to the time spent in leadership of the Alliance for Women Film Composers and as a member of Composers Diversity Collective before shouting out the staff of Joy Music House. The win also came on the day of Joy’s mother’s birthday, which earned a round of applause from the audience.

This is Catherine Joy’s first SCL Award win and first nomination.
