J.D. Vance (Gabriel Basso), a former Marine from southern Ohio and current Yale Law student, is on the verge of landing his dream job when a family crisis forces him to return to the home he’s tried to forget. J.D. must navigate the complex dynamics of his Appalachian family, including his volatile relationship with his mother Bev (Amy Adams), who’s struggling with addiction. Fueled by memories of his grandmother Mamaw (Glenn Close), the resilient and whip-smart woman who raised him, J.D. comes to embrace his family’s indelible imprint on his own personal journey.

Based on J.D. Vance’s #1 New York Times Bestseller, directed by Academy Award-winner Ron Howard and produced by Academy Award winner Brian Grazer, Hillbilly Elegy is a powerful personal memoir that offers a window into one family’s personal journey of survival and triumph. By following three colorful generations through their unique struggles, J.D.’s family story explores the highs and lows that define his family’s experience. R | 116min

David Fleming is an American composer who has quickly built an eclectic portfolio, including lush scores for David Attenborough documentaries, propulsive music for Michael Bay films, and an orchestral arrangement for Beyoncé. David’s work can next be heard in Ron Howard’s Hillbilly Elegy, which will be released on Netflix and in select theaters on November 24.

David started his career moonlighting in New York ad houses, writing music for ringtones and liquor commercials.  After winning BMI’s Pete Carpenter Fellowship, he relocated to Los Angeles at the invitation of renowned Law & Order composer, Mike Post.  Soon, David began contributing music to major films including Lionsgate’s Divergent and the Transformers series. In 2017 David composed the score for the BBC’s internationally acclaimed Blue Planet II alongside Zimmer, which marked the start of a fruitful working relationship with the Academy Award-winning composer. David’s work with Zimmer encompasses films including Disney’s The Lion King (2019) and X-Men: Dark Phoenix, as well as the forthcoming Wonder Woman 1984 and Dune.  Through his soundtrack work, David has also collaborated with popular recording artists such as Elton John, Lady Gaga, Pharrell Williams, Imagine Dragons, and Beyoncé, with whom he worked on the Grammy-nominated song “Spirit”, for The Lion King soundtrack. Other film credits include Revenge for Jolly! starring Oscar Isaac and the Sony Screen Gems thriller The Perfect Guy, composed alongside his longtime mentor, Atli Örvarsson.
