Like jazz, campaign music is an American invention with origins derived from Europe and Asia making their way to colonial America. Unlike today, songwriting was the principle force that could make or break an election. Still used today to establish or unintentionally destroy a candidate’s identity, this lecture will focus on the challenges songwriters then and now deal with from unauthorized use to copyright protection.
