Please join us for an evening of discussion with celebrated composer, producer, conductor and orchestrator Jay Weigel as we discuss composing for film. Moderated by composer Jonathan Grow, the evening’s conversation is sure to answer some questions and offer some help in how to navigate composing for this specific media.

The evening is free, and open to both members and non-members.

Jay Weigel is a Grammy-winning composer/producer and a distinguished composer, producer, conductor, arranger, orchestrator, and contractor for film, television, recordings, and concerts. Weigel serves as chair of the Nashville chapter of the Society of Composers & Lyricists, teaches film scoring at Loyola University of New Orleans, and composition and film music at Belmont University in Nashville.

Based in New Orleans, Los Angeles, and Nashville, he has worked in the film and television industry for several decades. His recent scores and soundtrack recordings can be heard in studio projects produced by Universal Films, Warner Brothers, Paramount, Lionsgate, AMC, HBO, Netflix, and Tyler Perry Productions, and numerous documentaries, independent films, and podcasts.

Weigel has worked as an orchestrator, conductor, contractor, and/or score preparer for George S. Clinton, Christopher Young, David Wingo, Alex Wurman, John Swihart, Christopher Lennertz, and Terence Blanchard.

He most recently arranged the works of Big Freedia and the Lost Bayou Ramblers for concerts with the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra, the recording of the latter was awarded a 2024 Grammy, and the music of Paul Williams, performed by singers Nella Rojas Sam DeRosa and Joshua Radin, for the Guild of Music Supervisor’s Icon Award presentation. This follows up on past successes working with Pharrell Williams, PJ Morton, Andra Day, REM, Tank and the Bangas, Jon Cleary, Chris Thomas King, Juvenile, Keala Settle, and Judith Owen.
