SCL community mourns loss of FRED KARLIN

Monday, May 3, 2004 — The Society of Composers & Lyricists (SCL) community mourns the loss of beloved friend and colleague, Oscar- and Emmy-winning Songwriter / Composer / Arranger / Author / Teacher / Past AMPAS Governor and Past SCL Board Member FRED KARLIN. His death was revealed over the weekend by his family; he died of cancer on March 26 in Culver City, California. He was 67. A memorial service is being planned for September, with further details to be announced by the family. Donations in Karlin’s name may be made to the American Heritage Center, University of Wyoming, Laramie, WY 82071, where the composer deposited many of his original scores.
