Music Mastering & Home Studio Acoustics Tips For Composers With John Rodd

Share

Veteran music engineer John Rodd equips lecture attendees with specific mastering tips and tricks that work in any digital audio workstation (DAW) environment, in any studio setup. Composers learned current techniques in the art of mastering music from one of Los Angeles’ top engineers working in film/TV/video game music.

Rodd explains how the composer can get the best possible quality when mastering music when limited to software plug-ins. The five most common mistakes in mastering — and how to avoid them — are covered in detail.  Rodd shares clear descriptions of key technical terms, practical visual and audio illustrations, and a simple ear training technique all of which will improve the music mastering techniques of attendees.

The lecture also covers home studio acoustics and how to maximize the listening environment while using inexpensive and effective treatments. At the end of the lecture attendees should be equipped to make choices about mastering music and acoustic issues, regardless of budget. The lecture benefits both novices and those with intermediate knowledge.

Based in Los Angeles, John Rodd is a freelance music recording, mixing and mastering engineer for film, video games and TV. He has worked on film and TV projects with composers including Cliff Martinez (The Lincoln Lawyer), Frederik Wiedmann (Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox), Dave Porter (Breaking Bad) and Ryan Amon (Elysium), and on many top video games including Call of Duty: Black Ops II, Mass Effect 3, Assassin’s Creed Revelations, Star Wars Kinect, and works extensively with Blizzard Entertainment on the World of Warcraft series. While his specialty has always been orchestral projects, Rodd has extensive experience recording, mixing and mastering all genres of music.
