Pat Williams American Concerto

Pat Williams discusses his “American Concerto” at an SCL Board Meeting circa 1999. The work originally premiered in 1979. In the video, Pat reviews his writing concepts, goals, and the behind the scenes politics and anecdotes which all came into play to bring the work to the concert stage. As the board looks over Pat’s score, we hear many excerpts of the interplay between the jazz quartet and the orchestra which gives us a sense of the piece and its scope. Video by Ron Grant.
