July 21, 2016 –

Join us for a night of choral exploration and analysis, as an ensemble of 43 professional SAG-AFTRA session singers read through three of our member-composers’ choral pieces in a mock recording session. Top session singers Ayana Haviv (Transparent, Call of Duty: Black Ops III) and Suzanne Waters (Mob City, X-Men: Days of Future Past) will demystify the path to perfect vocal writing and recording in a truly hands-on experience of process and pitfalls.

The workshop will focus solely on American musical genres, e.g: jazz, barbershop, musical theater, gospel, pop, country, American folk, blues, rock, etc. (no classical or “standard film music”). The singers will read through the pieces twice, as if in a recording setting, and offer feedback on optimizing efficiency of recording, voice leading, and other tips. The three scores selected for the workshop are:

Solitude (Ellington) – Arr. William Malpede. William will conduct.
Psyche: A Rock Opera – Cindy Shapiro. Jack Wall will conduct.
Down In A Hole (Jerry Cantrell, Alice in Chains) – Arr. Mark Smythe. Mark will conduct.
