Annual Membership Meeting 2010

THE SOCIETY OF COMPOSERS & LYRICISTS

Presented Our 2010 ANNUAL SCL MEMBERSHIP MEETING

WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 6, 2010, 7:00pm

SCL members and prospective SCL members attended our 2010 Annual Membership Meeting that included an informative panel discussion with composers and songwriters, extended social and networking time, cash bar, refreshments, and more (the bar closed at 12 midnight!).

Along with our general membership meeting, the SCL featured a panel discussion on “What’s So Funny: A Conversation with Film and Television Composers on the State of the Art for Scoring Comedy.” You may have scored music for horror, action and drama.  So how is comedy writing so different? We assembled a unique panel of composers who specialize in both comedy underscoring and song writing for film and television. This panel discussion was candid, informative and fun as our guests weighed in on their variety of experiences. Topics included: how and what makes comedy music different, working with directors, treatment of material, as well as trends and styles.  It was moderated by Christopher Farrell and featured panelists John Swihart, Nathan Wang, and Aaron Zigman.

The meeting was held at the historical landmark building of the HOLLYWOOD POST 43 (AMERICAN LEGION), 2035 North Highland Avenue, Hollywood, CA 90068. Hollywood Post 43 (American Legion) has been a favorite haunt for local artists and politicians for decades, and is a Los Angeles Registered Historical Landmark.  Humphrey Bogart among others used to hang out at the Deco Bar, Igor Stravinsky made his last recordings in the main hall, and films, television shows and commercials continue to be filmed in this unique, historical building.

The SCL gratefully acknowledges the continuing support of our SCL Members, along with ASCAP, BMI, & SESAC.
