New York-based composer and lyricist Christopher Curtis penned songs with co-writers Marjorie Duffield and Helen Park for the Netflix/Pearl Studio animated feature Over the Moon. His musical Chaplin played on Broadway and was nominated for eight Outer Critics Circle Awards, including Best Musical and Best Score. Chaplin was also nominated for 6 Drama Desk Awards, and has played in Russia, Brazil, Germany, Israel, Belgium, Holland and the Czech Republic, and opens in London in 2021. Curtis has also scored for television shows on the Discovery Channel, TLC and NBC. He was selected for the Walt Disney Animation Songwriter Development Program and the Pearl Studio Artists in Residence Program in Shanghai. Curtis studied at The New England Conservatory and Julliard.
Marjorie Duffield is a lyricist, playwright, and screenwriter. She co-wrote song lyrics for the showpiece of this event, Over the Moon. She wrote Betterthandead, a feature-length film, and episodes of the TV series Caged. As a writer for stage, her play Ice Island: The Wait for Shackleton was produced off-Broadway by The Melting Pot Theatre Company. Other credits include in a Lake of Fire (Winner, Moss Hart Award), Sit-In at the Five & Dime, Someday (music by Christopher Curtis), Viral and Presenting Olivia Jameson. Marjorie has worked extensively as a theatre educator at The Calhoun School (2009 Uhry/Thompson Award for Excellence in Teaching) and the arts-in-education programs at The Metropolitan Opera Guild. She is a graduate of Williams College and NYU’s Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program, where she was a Jacob Javits Fellow. She is a member of the Dramatists Guild and the Honor Roll, and was a recipient of the Dramatist Guild’s Jonathan Larson Memorial Musical Theatre Fellowship.
Helen Park is a three-time Drama Desk nominee and recipient of the Lucille Lortel Award for Best Musical and the Richard Rodgers Award. Park’s music has been described as “perversely addictive” (The New York Times) and “infectious” (The Hollywood Reporter). Park’s recent work includes KPOP, her Off-Broadway musical debut for which she wrote Music and Lyrics, music produced and orchestrated. The show received a sold-out, extended run at Ars Nova, and was the most nominated Off-Broadway show of the 2017-2018 season. The show is currently being re-developed for the Broadway stage. Park also wrote music for the one-act musical Baked Goods for which she won the 2018 Samuel French Short Playwriting Contest. As a performer, Park has sung at various New York cabaret venues including a sold-out solo concert at 54 Below. Park is an alumnus of NYU’s Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program and the BMI Lehman Engel Advanced Musical Theater Workshop, and is a proud member of the Dramatists Guild.
