Demystifying Global Woodwinds

Modern scoring demands versatility and today’s composers are increasingly called to write for instruments beyond the standard orchestra. Join multi-instrumentalist Josh Plotner for a dynamic, hands-on seminar exploring dozens of woodwinds from around the world.

With a background in classical and jazz traditions and years of study with master performers across the globe, Josh will demonstrate the unique colors, techniques, and possibilities of these instruments and demystify how to write for them effectively.

How do you write a cue for duduk that doesn’t sound like a cliché?

How do you handle traditional ornamentation?

How can you understand what you can expect from a flute just by the way it looks?

This session is designed to give composers and orchestrators the clarity and confidence to write for global woodwinds with authenticity, creativity, and intention.
