THE KENNEDY CENTER HONORS
Throughout its 42-year history, the annual Kennedy Center Honors Gala has become the highlight of the Washington cultural and social calendar, and its national broadcast on CBS is a high point of the television season. The recipients are recognized for their contributions to American culture through the performing arts – whether in music, dance, theater, opera, motion pictures, or television. On Sunday, December 8, in a star-studded celebration on the Kennedy Center Opera House stage, the 2019 Honorees accepted the recognition and gratitude of their peers through performances and tributes. The Honors Gala was recorded for broadcast on the CBS Network for the 42nd consecutive year as a two-hour primetime special which aired on Sunday, December 15, 2019. The class of 2019 Honorees included: R&B collective Earth, Wind & Fire, actress Sally Field, singer Linda Ronstadt, children’s television program Sesame Street (marking the first time a television program has received the award), and conductor and musical visionary Michael Tilson Thomas. 120 mins.

His numerous television credits include The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, American Idol, The Kennedy Center Honors, The American Music Awards, The Super Bowl, The Grammy Awards, The Emmys, and The Oscars.
Minor has garnered eleven Emmy Award nominations for Outstanding Music Direction, including two recent nominations for CBS’s The Kennedy Center Honors and ABC’s The Oscars. He was previously nominated for his work as Music Director on Genius: A Night for Ray Charles, An Evening of Stars: A Tribute to Chaka Khan, The 50th Annual Grammy Awards, The 51st Annual Grammy Awards, The Smithsonian Salutes Ray Charles: In Performance at the White House, Stayin’ Alive: A Grammy Salute to the Music of the Bee Gees, Aretha! A Grammy Celebration for the Queen of Soul, and The Oscars. In 2017, he won an Emmy for Taking The Stage: African American Music and Stories That Changed America.
Cynthia Erivo is a Tony, Emmy and Grammy Award-winning actress, and Academy, Golden Globe, and SAG Award nominee. Erivo burst onto West End and Broadway stages in The Color Purple and has since taken the big screen by storm.
Erivo recently starred in Kasi Lemmons’ Harriet where she brought the legacy of Harriet Tubman to the big screen. Focus Features premiered the film at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2019. Erivo’s performance was met with critical acclaim, garnering two Academy Award nominations, Golden Globe, SAG, and multiple NAACP Award nominations, as well as AAFCA and First Annual SCL Awards wins.
Erivo currently stars on the HBO series The Outsider, based on the Stephen King novel of the same name. Erivo can soon be seen as Aretha Franklin in National Geographic’s Emmy-winning global anthology series Genuis: Aretha. This upcoming season will be the first-ever, definitive, and only authorized scripted limited series on the life of the universally acclaimed Queen of Soul. Upcoming, Erivo will star in Universal’s Talent Show. Erivo is also set to executive produce and star in Warner Brothers’ musical take on the American folk tale Rip Van Winkle, as well as produce and star in the film adaption of the QCode scripted thriller podcast Carrier which Erivo both voiced and produced. Erivo will add to her producing credits as the executive producer of the upcoming Quibi docuseries, What We Keep. Continuing to push the boundaries of her versatile career, Erivo stars in John Cameron Mitchell’s music-driven podcast anthology Anthem: Homunculus.
In 2018, Erivo made her film debut in Bad Times at the El Royale and Widows. In addition to her illustrious stage career, Erivo is an accomplished performer with symphonies and music spaces including the Kennedy Center Honors, the 2020 Academy Awards, the 2017 Governor’s Ball (the official post-Oscar celebration) and the 2017 Grammy Awards. A UK native, Erivo graduated from the famed Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) in 2010.
