Gordon Goodwin

It is with immense sorrow and a profound sense of loss that we mark the passing of our dear friend and colleague, Gordon Goodwin.

A uniquely gifted saxophonist, pianist, bandleader, composer, and arranger, Gordon became known as one of the most admired and influential jazz figures of his generation. His 18-piece Big Phat Band, composed of top Los Angeles jazz musicians, earned wide respect for its dynamic blend of classic swing and modern jazz funk elements.

Gordon also made major contributions to film and television music, having worked on over 80 productions. He arranged and orchestrated music for popular films such as ArmageddonNational TreasureThe Incredibles (which earned him a Grammy®), Con AirGone in 60 SecondsEnemy of the State, and Remember the Titans. He also scored numerous animated series and films, including Animaniacs and Histeria, each of which earned him a Daytime Emmy®, as well as projects like ToonsylvaniaThe Legend of Tarzan, and Bah, Humduck! A Looney Tunes Christmas.

Composer Michael Giacchino had the pleasure of collaborating with Gordon on The Incredibles and Incredibles 2. He has offered a personal tribute below.

Rest in peace Gordon. Your music will continue to uplift hearts and inspire future generations of musicians forever.

Gordon was a rare kind of artist — someone with one foot rooted in the past and the other confidently stepping into the future. His arranging and orchestration work on The Incredibles didn’t just honor a classic musical style; they propelled it forward, ensuring that sound would live on for generations. Calling him talented feels almost inadequate. He was a teacher and a friend, always generous with his knowledge and always eager to lift up younger musicians so the art form he loved could keep thriving long after him.
