Walter Scharf
SCL Composer/Conductor Walter Scharf 1910-2003
Walter Scharf, distinguished composer and conductor of film music and honored member of the Society of Composers and Lyricists passed away on February 24th, 2003.
Born August 1st, 1910, Mr. Scharf began his productive career as an orchestrator for George Gershwin, Rogers and Hart, and Irving Berlin. He went on to provide scores to films by many notables including Helen Morgan, Jerry Lewis, Barbara Streisand and songs for Michael Jackson. He composed the longest ballet on film for Hans Christian Andersen. He is survived by his wife Betty, his son Alan, his daughter Susan, his grandchildren and many students, colleagues and friends. Mr. Scharf’s memorial service will be held on Friday, February 28th at Mt. Sinai Memorial Park at 11:00 am.
