A genocide survivor becomes a silent movie star: Aurora Mardiganian’s odyssey is close to unreal. After losing her family, escaping slavery, and enduring Hollywood greed. She journeys far to tell the world of the Armenian Genocide. Amber Wilkinson wrote on Eye For Film: “On an emotional level, it’s the score from Christine Aufderhaar, that does a lot of the heavy lifting, its elegiac strings setting a somber tone and moments of discordance taking us into Aurora’s headspace.”

Aurora’s Sunrise is touring on festivals around the globe and won the Asian Pacific Screen Award for Best Animated Feature Film, the Best Baltic Producer for Co-production Award at the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival, the Silver Apricot at the Golden Apricot Yerevan International Film Festival program, Audience Award at the ‚Animation Is Film Festival, Audience Award at the Asian World Film Festival, and nominations for best film at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival and the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival. Aurora’s Sunrise is Armenian’s submission to the 95th Academy Awards for Best International Feature Film. Not Rated | 96mins

Christine Aufderhaar graduated from the Conservatory Lugano with a degree in classical piano performance (piano class of Nora Doallo, composition class of Paul Glass). She also attended the Berklee College of Music and graduated in film scoring and classical composition within two years instead of the usual five years, receiving several scholarships and the Richard Levy Award. In 2002 she was an SCL intern and in 2006 a participant of the ASCAP Film Scoring Workshop, which inspired her to leave her position as Associate Professor at the Film University in Babelsberg and start working exclusively as a freelance composer. Christine wrote the score for many award-winning films and her choir music is being performed regularly. She was honored with several Culture Awards and was named by the ‘Federation of Film & Audiovisual Composers of Europe as European Composer 2008 for Switzerland. She also received a nomination for the Gema Music Author’s Award and was numerous times a jury member of the Film Music Awards in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and Nordic Countries. Christine was a board member of the German Film Academy and is a current board member of the German Film Composers Union. She is based in Berlin, Germany, and enjoys returning to LA, especially for the screening season.
