Justin Chon’s Blue Bayou is the moving and timely story of a uniquely American family fighting for their future. Antonio LeBlanc (Chon), a Korean adoptee raised in a small town in the Louisiana bayou, is married to the love of his life Kathy (Alicia Vikander), and stepdad to their beloved daughter Jessie. Struggling to make a better life for his family, he must confront the ghosts of his past when he discovers that he could be deported from the only country he has ever called home. Also starring Mark O’Brien, Linh-Dan Pham, Sydney Kowalske, Vondie Curtis-Hall, and Emory Cohen. R | 117min

Composer extraordinaire Roger Suen has lent his expertise to numerous feature films, television series, documentaries, and video games. Most recently, Roger reunited with director Justin Chon to score Blue Bayou, which premiered at Cannes in 2020 before its theatrical release by Focus Features. Roger previously worked with Chon on Gook (Sundance 2017) and Ms. Purple (Sundance 2019). Film Music Magazine said Roger’s critically-acclaimed score for the 2017 Sundance award-winning Gook was “powerfully unexpected, musical color” and included in their Top 10 Scores of 2017.

In 2020 Roger scored By Whatever Means Necessary, a companion docuseries to The Godfather of Harlem from EPIX about civil rights era music; as well as Stephon Marbury’s ESPN documentary A Kid From Coney Island. Coming up, Roger is scoring Chon’s next feature film Jamojaya, and the feature-length documentary Battle of the Schools for PBS’ American Experience anthology film series. Roger’s diverse music portfolio further includes scoring additional music for Guillermo Del Toro’s four-time Oscar-winning film The Shape of Water, Netflix’s upcoming highly-anticipated action thriller Red Notice starring Dwayne Johnson, Ryan Reynolds, and Gal Gadot; Netflix’s five-time Emmy nominated series Daredevil, and the Spider-Man: Miles Morales video game.

Born and raised in Southern California, Roger studied music composition as an undergraduate and graduate student at UCLA and CSUN. He currently resides in Los Angeles.

Justin Chon was born in Orange County, California. He most recently wrote, directed, and is starring in Blue Bayou alongside Alicia Vikander for Focus Features. As a filmmaker, Chon burst onto the scene with his film Gook, in which he also starred. The film won the NEXT Audience Award at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival, and Chon was awarded the Kiehl’s Someone to Watch Award at the 2018 Film Independent Spirit Awards. His 2019 film, Ms. Purple, premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in the U.S. Dramatic Competition and was released by Oscilloscope Laboratories. As an actor, Chon is known worldwide for playing Eric Yorkie in all five installments of the Twilight franchise.
