Home Before Dark is a dramatic mystery series inspired by the reporting of a young investigative journalist, Hilde Lysiak. Directed and executive produced by Jon M. Chu, the series follows a young girl named Hilde (played by Brooklynn Prince) who moves from the city of Brooklyn to the small lakeside town her father left behind. While there, her dogged pursuit of the truth leads her to unearth a cold case that everyone in town, including her own father, tried hard to bury.

The series is created and executive produced by showrunners Dana Fox and Dara Resnik; written and executive produced by Russel Friend & Garrett Lerner; and executive produced by Joy Gorman Wettels for Anonymous Content, Rosemary Rodriguez and Sharlene Martin. The cast includes Brooklynn Prince, Jim Sturgess, Abby Miller, Kylie Rogers, Michael Weston, Joelle Carter, Aziza Scott, Louis Herthum, Adrian Hough, Jibrail Nantambu and Deric McCabe. Multi-instrumentalist Nathan Lanier is a composer for film, television, and games who is known for his signature cinematic dance music on projects including So You Think You Can Dance, Dancing With The Stars, and Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn, among other projects.  He recently scored Apple TV+’s new mystery/drama series from Jon M. Chu and Dana Fox, Home Before Dark. Lanier has scored over 20 feature films, including, Jem & The Holograms, Max SteelJustin Bieber’s Believe, High Strung, and High Strung: Free Dance which debuted in theaters last Fall. In addition to the film’s score, Free Dance features new original songs and multiple dance performance pieces by Lanier. His music has also been featured on Live To Dance, Conan, Ellen, Glee Live Tour, So You Think You Can Dance Live Tour, ISU World Figure Skating Championships, the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics, and 2017 Carnival On Ice. In addition, he has written music for brands including Microsoft, American Express, T-Mobile, LG, McDonald’s, Ducati, Korean Air, and the LA Clippers.

Lanier holds a Master of Arts Degree in Composition and Film Scoring from NYU and a Bachelor of Music Degree in Violin Performance from Mannes College of Music in New York. In addition to composing, producing and conducting, Lanier is also proficient in the viola, piano, and guitar. He has performed with Kanye West, Stevie Wonder, John Williams, Josh Groban, Michael Bublé, and on such shows as Dancing With The Stars and The Tonight Show.

Dana Fox is a television and film writer, producer,  showrunner, and director.  She is currently the co-creator, showrunner, and executive producer of the Apple TV+ series Home Before Dark, based on the real-life reporting of a 9-year-old investigative journalist who uncovers a mystery from her own father’s past.  The series debuted April 3, 2020, and has already been renewed for a second season. Best known for her feature films What Happens in Vegas, Couples Retreat, and How to Be Single, Fox also served as the creator and showrunner of the Fox comedy series Ben and Kate.  She most recently wrote Disney’s Cruella with Emma Stone and Emma Thompson, and made her directing debut on an episode of the Fox series New Girl.

Fox graduated from Stanford University with a degree in English and Art History and went on to get her MFA in film and television production from USC Film School’s Peter Stark Producing Program. She has three children under the age of seven, which in no way whatsoever affects the amount of time she has to work.
