Writing Songs with Emotional Meaning

Dig deep into the psyche and emotional side of music, with songwriter Diane Warren. Learn how she writes songs that have a true depth of meaning for the films they enhance. Diane will focus in particular on her recently-penned songs “Til It Happens to You” (from The Hunting Ground), “Stand Up for Something” (from Marshall), “I’ll Fight” (from RBG), and “I’m Standing with You” (from Breakthrough).
Diane Warren is one of the most prolific and successful contemporary songwriters. Her songs have been featured in more than 100 movies, resulting in ten Academy Award® nominations. She received her ninth Oscar® nomination, a Grammy® nomination, and her first Emmy® win for the song Stand Up For Something for the film Marshall, and recently her tenth Oscar® nomination for the song I’ll Fight from RBG.

Other Oscar® nominations include Til It Happens To You, performed by Lady Gaga, from the critically acclaimed documentary The Hunting Ground, and the song Grateful performed by Rita Ora for the film Beyond the Lights. She was nominated for five Golden Globes and won for the powerful ballad You Haven’t Seen the Last of Me, performed by Cher in the movie Burlesque. Her hit songs include the Oscar® and Grammy® nominated song How Do I Live, Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now, Because You Loved Me, Music Of My Heart, I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing, and There You’ll Be. Diane has been nominated for 15 Grammys®, and received a Grammy® for the song Because You Loved Me. She was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2001.
