This fascinating seminar will explore what happens after a song is chosen to be in a film, episode, ad campaign, etc. Once the music supervisor says “I want this song,” the negotiations, organization, and administration take off. We will cover these topics: music clearance and negotiation, the licensing process, what’s a cue sheet, and how a song ends up on a cue sheet. We will also learn about what happens at the PRO level when a cue sheet is received. What does the PRO do with the cue sheet, how does the PRO determine when a royalty is due to be paid to a writer and/or publisher, and what happens if there is no cue sheet available? We will also take a look into the future, considering how technology comes into play and, given inevitable advances in tech, will we always need a cue sheet? Our impressive panel of experts will pull back the curtain on the arcane world of sync monetization. Not to be missed!

Kerrylyn Genetive has worked in the Warner Bros Music Department for over 15 years.  In her current role as Director, Music Clearance – she oversees music clearance for all Warner Bros, New Line and HBO Max feature productions which includes researching rights holders, negotiating fees, maintaining licensed music budgets, drafting end title credits and preparing cue sheets.

Jennifer Haley serves as VP, Content Registration for SESAC Music Group. In this role, Jennifer works with company subsidiaries including SESAC PRO, The Harry Fox Agency, and Mint Digital Licensing to oversee works registrations and song ingestion. Additionally, she oversees registrations provided to The MLC, cue sheet processing, and the use of tracking technologies; as well as providing customer service and problem resolution to affiliates.

Jennifer worked at Sony/ATV Music Publishing for twelve years before starting at SESAC as a manager in 2013. While there, she was responsible for overseeing all levels of music administration for Sony Pictures Entertainment, Paramount Pictures, DreamWorks, MGM, Spyglass, Mandalay, Revolution, Tyler Perry Studios, and other studios.

Jennifer Jesperson is a devoted music fan since childhood, who was destined to work in the music business. After two years in the music video industry, in 1990, she joined the film & TV department of Warner Special Products, the licensing division for the Warner Music Group, and was the sole licensing person for TV shows such as Beverly Hills, 90210, Northern Exposure, The Simpsons, The Sopranos, The Wire, and Six Feet Under. Her film work there included School of Rock and Almost Famous, where she was able to help Cameron Crowe license five Led Zeppelin songs. In 2007, Jennifer started her own music clearance and consulting company, Clear From Here. She was the music consultant and clearance person for five seasons of the ABC Family hit, The Secret Life Of The American Teenager. She was hired as a consultant by NBC Universal Television Music where she handled all of the clearances for the musically intensive Parenthood and cleared songs by Bob Dylan, Paul McCartney, Van Morrison, Neil Young, David Bowie, Pearl Jam, Bon Iver, Adele, and hundreds of others. That’s where Jennifer was introduced to and began to work with Qwire, a music clearance and licensing program as well as a cue sheet creation and reporting tool.

Over the years, Jennifer has handled clearances for numerous projects including two Mad Men soundtrack albums, multiple films, documentaries, commercials, and music-intensive reality television shows. She cleared the music for the Emmy Award-nominated American Epic, the PBS/BBC music documentary produced by T Bone Burnett, Jack White, and Robert Redford. She recently finished clearing the music for the first-ever authorized Led Zeppelin documentary, Becoming Led Zeppelin to be released in 2022. In May of 2021, Jennifer became the Director of Music Clearance and Licensing for MGM Studios.
