Call for Nominations for Board of Directors Election 2023

The 2021-2023 term for the Society of Composers & Lyricists Board of Directors is about to end and the 2-year election cycle is being replaced with a 4-year election cycle. Qualified members are invited to submit their names for the 2023-2027 term. Incumbent Board members whose terms are expiring must also run for re-election if they desire to continue their tenure. Approximately half the Board seats are open.

Nominee Criteria

Nominees must be current voting-eligible members of the SCL (Full, Gold, Platinum, or Diamond level) for the past thirty-six (36) consecutive months prior to April 1, 2023. Sponsors/Patrons and Associate Members are not eligible, however, the Board reserves the right to grant a waiver from this requirement to otherwise qualified composer and/or songwriter members.

Nominations are accepted via the online form below, and may be submitted by any current voting-eligible members of the SCL.

The deadline for nominations is April 16, 2023 at 11:59pm.
Please read the election guidelines below, then use the nomination form to submit your nomination. The final roster of nominees will be announced on April 20, 2023, and the election will then commence. Voting will close on April 30, 2023 at 11:59pm. The newly elected Board will be announced on May 2, 2023.

Election Guidelines

The SCL Board of Directors consists of elected members, past presidents, and members of the Advisory Board. The SCL Board Officers (President, 1st and 2nd Vice Presidents, Recording Secretary and CFO/Treasurer) are elected by the SCL Board.

Nominees shall not campaign or lobby for votes. The SCL will act as the only source of information for the nominees. Nominees may not solicit votes from SCL members by way of flyers, mailings, bulk email, social media, telephone calls, magazine ads, articles or any other manner. Such activity may be grounds for disqualification.

In order to ensure that the all-volunteer SCL Board is effective and productive, Board members must agree to adhere to certain standards of behavior and commitment. The following list constitutes actions that may result in expulsion of a Board member from the SCL Board:

  • Absenteeism – no more than four missed Board meetings per year.
  • Breach of confidentiality.
  • Using one’s position as a Board member to promote oneself or a commercial product, either to members of the SCL or anyone else.
  • Use of the information stream afforded Board members (non-confidential) for profit or personal gain.
  • Repeated improper conduct at Board meetings.
  • Public criticism of the SCL, its officers, its Board or its policies.
