Independent Songwriters & Composers Question Generative AI Talks as Music Week in NYC Begins

Music Creators North America, Songwriters Guild of America, and the Society of Composers & Lyricists have released a statement on the back of recent reports that Major multi-national record labels and publishers have been engaging in closed-door meetings with technology companies who are seeking to use their creators’ songs in order to “train” their generative AI systems to create derivative works.

The message follows –

If there is to be a setting of industry-wide GenAI licensing standards, it should be with the benefit of an open, legislative dialog and process whereby all details are disclosed to the affected parties and market competition is preserved.
