John Powell Wins Outstanding Original Score for an Independent Film at 5th SCL Awards

Composer John Powell’s score for Still: A Michael J. Fox Movie was awarded Outstanding Original Score for an Independent Film at the 5th SCL Awards on Tuesday, February 13, 2024 by the voting members of the Society of Composers & Lyricists. The award was presented by Ryan Lott of Son Lux, whose score for Everything Everywhere All At Once won the award last year.

During the acceptance speech, Powell jested with the audience – saying it was a mistake to choose him over fellow nominee Richard Sherman before being very complimentary toward composers of documentaries, saying that this was his “first and last” attempt to score a documentary film.

This is composer John Powell’s first SCL Award win and third nomination. He was previously nominated for How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World (1st SCL Awards) and Don’t Worry Darling (4th SCL Awards).
