LA Staff Changes: A fond farewell and two welcome additions to our staff.
The SCL has been preparing for the departure of our beloved Chief Operating Officer and we are thrilled to elevate LA Admin, Marie Kingsley to the role of COO. We welcome two new LA Admins to the SCL Leadership Team to take on Marie’s previous responsibilities. Full details are below.
Departing: Laura Jackman has successfully served as the SCL COO since March 2021. She will be moving on to the next adventure in her career as an Associate Music Contractor at Encompass Music Partners. We are eternally grateful for everything she has done for the SCL over the past two years. She is looking forward to continuing to work with our SCL Members. You are sure to continue seeing Laura as an attendee at SCL events.

Laura has experienced too many magical musical moments to recount in her time with the SCL including her first in-person Q&A event for Dune with Hans Zimmer and Denis Villeneuve to the recent 4th Annual SCL Awards with 450 guests: the largest and most successful, live SCL event to date. She could not have successfully pulled off the multitude of SCL events and experiences without her amazing admin, media, technology, and social media teams. Laura is extremely proud to have strengthened and aided in the growth of this incredible organization. She looks forward to witnessing the continued ascension of the SCL as an important, prestigious, and strong community-based, media music organization as a proud member. She extends her heartfelt thanks to all. We are very sorry to see her go but we look forward to raising a glass with her once again, most likely at the upcoming Oscar reception in Los Angeles.

Laura is tremendously grateful for her time serving as COO with the wonderful SCL. It has been an exceptional honor to support all the music creators and team members associated with the organization for the last two years. She looks forward to the next chapter of music-making!

We proudly promote Marie Kingsley to the COO role at the SCL. Marie will continue to oversee our online events, the Weekly Wire, and the general day-to-day management of the SCL.

Marie Kingsley originally joined the SCL as a volunteer and was quickly hired on as staff, where she gained valuable experience supporting songwriters and composers in their creative endeavors. Her work with SCL has been an opportunity to give back to the community and has allowed her to network with other professionals in the industry. She finds this work to be fulfilling and looks forward to continuing to support the SCL’s mission as COO.

Marie is also passionate about post-production audio and enjoys the possibilities that this field offers; she is currently finishing her audio engineering studies at PCC and in her spare time, she enjoys exploring the world of DIY synths and up-cycling old junk (soup cans, landline telephones, tins, etc.) into custom lo-fi microphones. She is committed to learning and sharpening her skills and is excited about exploring new techniques and technologies to improve her craft.

Looking toward the future, Marie is eager to utilize her love of music and audio engineering in aiding in the SCL’s continued growth.
