Not to be confused with the SCL’s own Mentor program, this is a way for CSUN scoring students to gain real world experience in the professional arena. This “internship” is a required class and part of the student’s capstone experience prior to graduation.

The CSUN students have received training in traditional and contemporary music writing, arranging, and analysis. In addition they learn technology, business, entrepreneurship, and production, including score prep and recording. Training is thorough. Recently the Hollywood Reporter ranked Northridge as one of the top 25 music schools worldwide.

The students are bonded and sign confidentiality agreements. There is no obligation for either student or mentor if the arrangement needs to change for any reason. This program has been a successful collaboration for the past twelve years, pairing students with many SCL composers, and studios like Remote Control, Sonic Fuel, and East/West Studios.

A word of caution, California labor law stipulates internships be primarily for the benefit of the intern, not a substitute for a paid position. Hours average ten a week for the fifteen-week semester and can be scheduled at times suitable to both student and mentor.

Interested composers should contact Elizabeth Sellers via the SCL’s contact form (please submit to General Inquiries). Please include your primary area of work (Film, TV, Video Games, Trailers, etc) and a list of software you use.
