At the SCL’s 2010 general membership meeting, we featured a panel discussion on “What’s So Funny: A Conversation with Film and Television Composers on the State of the Art for Scoring Comedy.” You may have scored music for horror, action and drama.  So how is comedy writing so different? We assembled a unique panel of composers who specialize in both comedy underscoring and song writing for film and television. This panel discussion was candid, informative and fun as our guests weighed in on their variety of experiences. Topics included: how and what makes comedy music different, working with directors, treatment of material, as well as trends and styles.  It was moderated by Christopher Farrell and featured panelists John Swihart, Nathan Wang, and Aaron Zigman.
