“We played a song at a ‘Sing Out’ for a music licensor and she signed it. We’ve since formed a good working relationship, and she’s asked us to submit for special projects and has since signed several additional songs.  The Sing Out is also great for networking and meeting potential collaborators.  This event is not to be missed!”

The SCL Sing Out Selection Committee will choose 12 songs. Those selected will be announced on March 31, 2017. Venue information will be provided at that time. If your song is not chosen, you are still welcome to attend.

After joining Disney in 1990 she was promoted to Vice President of Music, and as key music executive her responsibilities encompassed all aspects of music for television movies and series produced by Walt Disney Television, Touchstone Television and ABC Studios through 2009. Beginning in 2010 Cheryl has worked independently for Disney Channel series as part of the production staff. Her credits as Music Supervisor include Shake It Up, Austin & Ally, Girl Meets World and Bizaardvark.

Cheryl is interested in songs that are generally inspired by the “Lonely Island” style of music videos, rap in nature with a hooky melody chorus. They’re meant to be funny to a tween audience – i.e., there was a song about two girls sending people the wrong emoji called “Oops! Wrong Emoji.” There was another about a science class assignment to write about an endangered species, which was a love song to a blobfish, and one more in a holiday episode about a kid grown up enough to move to the adult table for dinner but decided it was more fun at the kids’ table. Songs submitted should be for two 14-year-old singers equally featured, and should run 1:40 to 2:00. Production should be as contemporary and legit radio sounding as possible.

Mike is looking for music released between 2009 and 2011 that sounds like radio hipster rock – like MGMT, Silversun Pickups, Cat Power.  He sometimes works on commercials and a variety of music searches, so feel free to submit uptempo songs outside the framework of hipster rock.
