NY SongArts: Musical Storytelling

FORM SUBMISSION REQUIRED BELOW

Group Listening Session
TUESDAY, MAY 18, 2021

Following up on last year’s popular Global Song-Demic, SCL NY SongArts invites SCL members to participate in Musical Storytelling, a collaborative songwriting opportunity.

SCL NY SongArts will use your submission responses to pair you with a new SCL collaborator. Everyone who submits may participate. These teams will be tasked with creating and producing an original song, in any genre, which moves the story forward as it would in musical theater.

We will be writing songs based upon Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, with each team assigned one chapter to freely adapt. Songwriters are encouraged to experiment with different contexts, time periods, cultures, characters, and points of view.

On Tuesday, April 27, the full group will convene for an initial Zoom meet-and-greet. Collaborators will meet their partners and the NY SongArts team will present an overview of the project. The collaborator teams will then have until Sunday, May 16 (3 weeks) to create, produce and deliver an original song to NY SongArts.

This entire workshop will culminate in a Zoom listening session on Tuesday, May 18. Participants and their SCL colleagues will be invited to hear the finished songs in the context of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

Please submit a “storytelling song” in any musical genre — musical theater preferred but not necessary. No specific musical theater experience is required to participate in this activity. Choose one MP3 that best represents your writing style.
