Volker Bertelmann is an internationally acclaimed pianist, composer, and experimental musician. His score for Garth Davis’s Oscar-nominated film Lion, composed in collaboration with Dustin O’Halloran, was awarded an Australian AACTA Award in 2017 and received nominations for multiple awards in the same year, among others for an Academy Award, Golden Globe, and BAFTA and in 2016 for the Critics’ Choice Award as well as the Hollywood Music in Media Awards. Since then, Bertelmann has provided music for a large number of films and TV shows, such as the Emmy-and BAFTA-nominated mini-series Patrick Melrose, the BBC-commissioned crime series Dublin Murders, Netflix’s blockbuster movie The Old Guard starring Charlize Theron, Summerland with Gemma Arterton, Francis Lee’s romantic drama Ammonite, and the sci-fi movie Stowaway starring Anna Kendrick and Toni Collette, premiering on Netflix in April 2021. Volker Bertelmann, who in his solo work goes by the name Hauschka, is a uniquely innovative pianist who is renowned both for his trademark sound, which he achieves by preparing the piano with various objects, and his ability to improvise entire performances. He has toured extensively and has produced over twenty albums and EPs. Bertelmann has composed for soloists like mandolinist Avi Avital, as well as for ensembles and orchestras such as the MDR Leipzig Radio Symphony Orchestra and his many collaborations include recordings with the Grammy Award-winning violinist Hilary Hahn.
