Dee Dee Allen and Barry Glickman are New York City stage stars with a crisis on their hands: their expensive new Broadway show is a major flop that has suddenly flatlined their careers. Meanwhile, in small-town Indiana, high school student Emma Nolan is experiencing a very different kind of heartbreak: despite the support of the high school principal, the head of the PTA has banned her from attending the prom with her girlfriend, Alyssa. When Dee Dee and Barry decide that Emma’s predicament is the perfect cause to help resurrect their public images, they hit the road with Angie and Trent, another pair of cynical actors looking for a professional lift. But when their self-absorbed celebrity activism unexpectedly backfires, the foursome finds their own lives upended as they rally to give Emma a night where she can truly celebrate who she is.

Directed by Ryan Murphy, The Prom is the spectacular, big-hearted film adaptation of Chad Beguelin, Bob Martin, and Matthew Sklar’s award-winning, Tony-nominated Broadway musical. Screenplay by Bob Martin and Chad Beguelin. PG-13 | 130min

Matthew Sklar is a Tony and Emmy Award-nominated composer. He was most recently represented on Broadway with the critically acclaimed original musical comedy, The Prom, which was nominated for seven Tony Awards including Best Musical and Best Original Score. The Prom was adapted into a feature film for Netflix, directed by Ryan Murphy, with a cast including Meryl Streep, Nicole Kidman, James Corden, Andrew Rannells, and Kerry Washington. Other works include the Broadway musicals Elf,  based on the beloved holiday classic; and The Wedding Singer, nominated for five Tony Awards including Best Musical and Best Original Score. Sklar received a Primetime Emmy Award Nomination for “Outstanding Music Direction” for NBC’s stop-motion animated TV special Elf: Buddy’s Musical Christmas, for which he adapted his score from the Broadway musical.

David Klotz is a seven-time Emmy winner for his music editorial work on Netflix’s Stranger Things, HBO’s Game of Thrones, and FX’s American Horror Story. Klotz recently scored, alongside Matthew Sklar, his first feature film and Netflix’s anticipated musical comedy The Prom, directed by Ryan Murphy and starring Meryl Streep. As a recording artist under the alias Dream System 8, Klotz has created many original songs for film and television including Fox’s 9-1-1 and Scream Queens, starring Jamie Lee Curtis. He recently produced and arranged a cover of Limahl’s 1984 hit song “Never Ending Story” for the season 3 finale of Stranger Things, arguably the most talked-about moment of the series. David got his start music supervising Christopher Nolan’s critically acclaimed film, Memento but soon changed his focus to music editing, working on films such as Iron Man and Eat Pray Love. His most recent credits include: Netflix’s Ratched, Hollywood, I Am Not Okay with This, The Politician, The Boys in the Band, and FX’s Pose.

Chad Beguelin is a six-time Tony Award® nominee. His Broadway works include The Prom (Tony Award nomination for Best Book and Best Original Score, Drama Desk Award Nomination for Best Book and Outstanding Lyrics), Disney’s Aladdin (Tony Award nomination for Best Book and Best Original Score, Drama Desk Award Nomination for Best Book and Outstanding Lyrics), and The Wedding Singer (Tony Award nomination for Best Book and Best Original Score, Drama Desk Award nomination for Outstanding Lyrics). He also wrote the lyrics for the Broadway musical Elf, which broke several box office records at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre. He is the recipient of the Edward Kleban Award for Outstanding Lyric Writing, the Jonathan Larson Performing Arts Foundation Awards, the Gilman & Gonzalez-Falla Musical Theater Award, and the ASCAP Foundation Richard Rodgers New Horizons Award. Chad is a graduate of New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts Graduate Dramatic Writing Program.
